Shadow Puppets

Yesterday at Evelina School we took part in a shadow puppet theatre workshop. The artist who run the workshop brought in a puppet to show us from Bali. The puppet was made from paper and had moving parts, which were controlled by sticks.

We designed our own puppets and made them using card and wooden sticks. Our designs included a frog and an elephant. We were then able to put on a performance in our theatre, which was created using a white screen and a light. The puppeteer stood behind the screen and controlled the puppets which cast a shadow on the screen.

These are some photographs of the workshop, which were taken by TR.

T – I am very impressed with your frog puppet. Your photographs are very clever, I like your plain backgrounds because they show off the detail of the puppet.

Well done TR. If we see you again, we can build on your photographic skills and you can learn how to manipulate your photographs.
    Have a great summer! 🙂

  4. Shadow Puppets seem to be more and more popular these days. I am a puppeteer who specialises in shadow puppets and you can see the ones I’m making at the moment on my blog – http://puppetlady.wordpress.com
Yours are very nice by the way and like the new one on my site at the moment is made with lighting gels to make coloured patches, or did you use cellophane or sweety wrappers?
