The Globe theatre :)

Posted: May 5, 2010 by rosalindayli in general, HBL, Pupil

The Globe theatre came in yesterday and we did lots of fun things.

We were discussing the two different installations and how we were going to make them in four weeks.

We came up with the idea that the classroom area was going to be the royal court and the outside garden area was going to be the Forest of Arden.  We then did some practical work and read some of the play, which was great. We was laughing a lot.

The installation will be exciting to do, because there is a lot of work that needs to be put into it.

Glad you enjoyed it HBL. 🙂
If you get time, you could tidy this post up a bit with a little attention to your punctuation. How about a picture to illustrate it? Maybe how the Forest of Arden has been created in other productions?

Glad you enjoyed the session on Tuesday! Here are some thoughts on ways you may want to continue the work tomorrow before we see you again on Friday:

    1. Read through the text – Act one scene three- everytime you come across a pronoun mark it by pointing. So as you read the scene through again with your partner when you get to ‘I’ point to yourself, if you say ‘you’ point to your partner, if the text says ‘we’ point to people next to you. What do you notice about the pattern of speech? What does it mean when someone refers to themsleves a lot or to another person a lot? It might be quite interesting to try to play the scene without the words but just show the rhythmn of the pointing – it won’t be perfect as you need the words – but it would be intersting to see how we interpret body language, and to question who is doing most pointing is it Duke Frederick to Rosalind – what does that tell us about the characters? Similarly when we looked at the YouTube clip – you can tell what is happening just through body languge.

    2. Both Celia and Rosalind decide to disguise themsleves, it might be an interesting disucssion to think about disguise today. Who would you disguise yourself as today?

3.This brings us on to the installation and the masks – could we decide on the design for these. I know you spoke to Katie about also creating different masks for the characters also. Could there be text or writing near or in the masks?

4.I know we spoke last time about a programme and posters, perhaps we could also look at desiging an invitation?

On Friday it would be great to talk about our role in the installation – so any ideas do write them down and we can discuss them on Friday.

We look forward to seeing you on then!

    Many thanks

    Kate

    Hi Kate
    Thanks for these pointers.
Would it be possible another time for you to post your suggestions a day ahead as we only found them this morning. Also if you post as a separate post rather than a comment pupils logging on at home will be able to see it immediately rather than waiting for me to approve the comment. Thanks.
    Onto the tasks:
We read the speech again and discussed the pointing. DF does the most and refers to himself the least – exercising his power. R and C use I quite a bit defending themselves. Also we noticed that DF uses family terms when speaking to and of the girls where they give him his formal titles.
We agreed that the best disguises would be ones where we would blend into the surroundings – so suits to disappear in a City environment and so on.
Re the masks, R, Ja and JC are going to do some sketches and designs. M is also keen we have Anna the work with us to make the masks. We also need some pointers about the relevant bits of text.
We didn’t get as far as programmes etc.
    Phew!!!!!

Hi Kate we all loved the work that you have done with us. We looked at the text again and discussed the the body language in the film and we looked at it when we read the play. We used are hands when ever we came across any pronouns. we then discussed are masks and how we would go about making them. we are looking forward to seeing you all again soon yours sincerely ROH
